LOGAN — A 21-year-old North Logan woman suspected of sending a bomb threat to her employer so she wouldn’t have to go to work made her first court appearance. Brittany R. Valentine has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Valentine was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, appearing by video from jail. She was charged with one count of making a threat of terrorism, a second-degree felony.

Judge Thomas Willmore assigned Valentine a public defender, Mike McGinnis, to represent her. He also set bail at $10,000.

Judge Willmore told Valentine that if she was able to post bail, she is not allowed to contact her prior employer and be placed on pre-trial supervision. He also prohibited her from having a cell phone, and suggested she undergo a mental health evaluation.

Valentine spoke only briefly during the arraignment. She told the court, she wasn’t sure if she would be able to post bail.

Logan City police officers claim an employee at ICON Health & Fitness received a message Monday night. The “cryptic text” included a bomb emoji and said the explosive device would detonate shortly.

The employee showed the text to company managers who contacted law enforcement. The company facility was also evacuated for a time, until it was determined that the buildings were safe again to enter.

Officers were able to track the text message to Valentine. She later admitted to sending the message because she didn’t want to go to work.

Valentine is scheduled to appear again in court next week. She could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
