Willard man arrested on suspicion of threatening to kill Mendon family – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN — Law enforcement were able to stop a 64-year-old Willard man before he was able to possibly kill a family member in Mendon. Charles W. Leff was arrested Friday afternoon and booked into the Cache County Jail.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said detectives began investigating the attempted aggravated homicide Friday morning. Leff allegedly had threatened to kill the Mendon resident. Another family member, who was aware of the threats, notified the intended victim. The intended victim then reportedly witnessed Leff driving past their home and called 911.

Deputies were able to safely stop Leff and found him to be in possession of several firearms. He was taken into custody without incident.

Leff was booked into jail on multiple offenses including attempted aggravated murder, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence.

Leff is being held on $123,310.00 bond. He has previously been convicted of sodomy of a child, lewdness of a child, aggravated assault and threatening another person with a weapon.

Peck did not disclose the nature of Leff’s threats or a possible motive. Detectives are continuing to investigate this case.

Leff is expected to be arraigned in 1st District Court Monday afternoon.
