LOGAN – Utah State head football coach Matt Wells addressed the media Thursday afternoon and answered questions about the sexual assault allegations against former USU football player Torrey Green.

Green was dismissed from the Atlanta Falcons Thursday morning. Falcons owner Arthur Blank said he didn’t want anybody connected to the organization with those kinds of allegations.

The story was originally reported by The Salt Lake Tribune in July, but Green was not identified. The article stated that four separate women reported being sexually assaulted by the same person in 2015, but charges were never filed.

Green continued to play for USU throughout the 2015 season and appeared in all 13 games, the same time incidents were being reported.

Wells, who has dismissed high-profile players from the team for misconduct in the past, said he wasn’t aware about the accusations until about a week ago.

“What you know is what I know,” he said. “I don’t know much more. They were all news to me very, very recently.”

Wells said it was the university that first contacted him about the incident and that USU public relations director Tim Vitale will release more information at a later time.

Wells said he often discusses the team’s core values and the way he expects the team to act on and off the field.

“I’m very proud of our track record here,” he said. “I’m very proud of our players. We’re not perfect. Everyone of us know that, but we do spend a lot of time in educating these kids in the terms of a lot of different scenarios on the field and off the field.”

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Green was contacted, but denied the allegations.
