SMITHFIELD — Deputies were called to Sky View High School after a threat was received by school staff Wednesday morning.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi said the threat was passed along to the school’s resource deputy, who began investigating. A juvenile, who allegedly sent out the threat, was located and cooperated with the deputy.

The school remained open Wednesday and classes were held as normal.

Bartschi said deputies treat each threat with extreme caution. He felt like though, based on their initial investigation, the suspect did not intend to carry out the treat.

The juvenile’s identity was not released because of their age. Criminal charges are pending the investigation.

The threat came on the same day that Cache County School District officials held a training with staff, on how to respond to threats at school. A portion of the training will be emailed to parents of students.
