SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Utah is honoring the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s memorable “I Have a Dream” speech with a bell ringing celebration Wednesday.

King delivered the speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Gov. Gary Herbert, Lt. Governor Greg Bell and others on Wednesday will gather on the steps of the Utah State Capitol for a bell ringing at 1 p.m.

The governor has asked schools and churches to join the celebration by ringing bells.

Herbert will also sign a declaration honoring the day and an executive order for the state’s Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission.
