SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report finds that Utah ranks dead last for its proportion of full-time college students graduating in a six-year time-frame.

But it’s got the highest number of students still enrolled at the six-year mark.

The study from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center shows about 60 percent get their undergraduate degree within six years.

State higher education officials say the report shows what they already know: that a good chunk of students interrupt their studies to serve two-year Mormon missions.

They also say that many students at Utah’s public universities and colleges hold down jobs. Officials say it means some students sign up for fewer classes per semester or take time away from school to work, prolonging graduation.

The study tracks students who began college in fall 2007.
