SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The high school graduation rate in Utah has increased by about 1 percent over the past year and remains slightly above the national average.

The latest figures released by the U.S. Education Department show 84.8 percent of Utah’s high school students graduated at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.

That’s up from 83.9 percent at the end of 2014, and nearly 9 percent better than the 76 percent rate recorded at the end of 2011.

The national average is 83.2 percent. That’s also about a 1 percent increase from the previous year.

Iowa posted the best graduation rate at 90.8 percent. New Mexico and the District of Columbia were the worst at about 68.5 and one-half percent.
