PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah State University professor is the most recent educator to defend himself after signing an amicus brief that argues against gay marriage.
The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1Jr6HQH) USU professor of philosophy Richard Sherlock says polyandry and polygamy would surely follow if the Supreme Court decision expected in June gives gay couples the right to marry nationwide.
The friends of the court brief was filed by Washington, D.C.-based attorney Gene Schaerr, who unsuccessfully defended Utah’s same-sex marriage ban. About 100 “scholars of marriage” signed on last month, including Utah Valley University President Matthew Holland.
USU associate professor of family, consumer and human development Kay Bradford joined Sherlock as the only USU professors to sign the brief. She did not return requests for comment Tuesday.
