LOGAN – Utah State University, working with both Colorado and Western Colorado Universities, is launching three outdoor industry business certificates, offered online, each with a different emphasis.

Rene Eborn is a special assistant to the vice president over USU Online. She said USU’s Outdoor Product and Design program qualifies Utah State to be part of this new offering.

”We feel we are very uniquely positioned to provide these opportunities for practical education and for people who are already working in this industry,” she explained, “for them to earn a certificate and then maybe potentially move on to extending their educational opportunities.”

She said it could develop into a pathway to a degree program.

”Our hope is we will get these certifications out the door and that we can develop pathways that if they do want to continue on and get their associate of science degree or get a bachelors degree that there will be that opportunity to do that.”

For its part in this suite of three certificates, USU will focus on sustainability, product design and supply chain management in the outdoor industry.

She said it will be the only certificate of its kind in Utah.

Utah State’s courses begin June 1 and the first is expected to cost $600. It will be offered through USU Extension and that means the cost will be the same for anyone who enrolls, regardless of state of residency.
