SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A lawyer Utah State University has acknowledged its procedures for handling sexual assault allegations fell short in the case of a former football player later dropped by the Atlanta Falcons after multiple accusations.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2dPPvOi) that USU general counsel Mica McKinney nevertheless told a state records committee on Thursday that emails between school employees about 22-year-old Torrey Green shouldn’t be released because it would violate federal student privacy laws.
The committee denied the newspaper’s request, though members urged USU to release any information it legally could.
Prosecutors filed charges this month after several women told the Salt Lake Tribune they’d reported being assaulted by Green but seen little action on their cases.
Green’s lawyer Greg Skordas says he’s being transported back to Utah after his arrest in California.
