LOGAN – Students in the Huntsman School of Business Marketing Association at Utah State University are building free websites for small businesses and non-profit organizations in and around Cache Valley as a community service project this semester.

Temptation Cupcake owner Sherilyn Houtin said Monday students she worked with to create her website were very helpful and having a good online presence has been good for business.

Eric Schulz, the adviser to the students in the association, said they line up small businesses and non-profit organizations with students with the expertise to make a successful website.

“This will be the third year we’ve done this,” Shultz said. “We have about 30 already and we can probably use another 10 organizations this semester.”

Shultz said they have helped about a hundred businesses and non profits with the service.

Temptation Cupcake was one that accepted the invitation from the university.

The cake baking company was created in 2010 and owner Sherilyn Hortin heard about the program to help small businesses from her son-in-law. He suggested she contact the university and be included in the program.

She was glad she did and very happy with the results. The website was a great addition to her business.

Temptation Cupcake makes a variety of cupcakes nicely decorated every morning for customers who want a tasty treat for the day.

“I worked with two young ladies that built the website,” she said. “They were easy to work with and I only met with them twice.”

Hortin said they visited at the store and once at the university and that was all it took.

“It’s really been successful; they showed me how to use it and how I could make changes,” she said. “I’m happy with the service, wanted to tweak it a little once and it was easy to do.”

The cupcake maker said people can email her now and she can return the email to them.

The team even made their way to the Ogden area to help other small businesses and non-profit organizations.
