LOGAN – For the first time in The Family Place’s 37-year history, they not only made their financial goal, but exceeded it. There was an anonymous donor that matched contributions of up to $100,000, for an annual total of over $200,000 in 2019.
“We did it! We surpassed the goal of $100,000,” said Esterlee Molyneux, the chief relationship officer for The Family Place. “The goal seemed impossible, but we were able to reach it.”
The Family Place started their fundraising efforts in October and tried a variety of outreach with emails, social media, and their new Starfish vending machine worked like a charm. Rather than spending a few dollars on a soda or candy bar, people could donate money for various services or items needed at the center.
They tried whatever they could do to meet their financial needs. And positive things began to happen.
“On December 24, we were little short and people stepped up and brought in their donations,” she said. “I can’t tell you how many times I cried. We had a family whose father passed away and the family got together and collected money and made a donation as a family.
“I will tell you truly every donation makes difference,” she said. “When we talk about Christmas miracles this was definitely one.”
Molyneux said people from all walks of life, political persuasions and age groups donated for one common cause, with donations large and small.
“On December 31st, we were about $1,300 short (of our goal) and within 24 hours we had people come in and bring donations,” Molyneux said. “Within 24 hours, the money came in to reach the goal. One hundred percent of the money goes to help children and families.”
Over $100,000 is a significant amount of money to raise in a short time.
The Family Place was founded in 1982 as a support center for children and families in crisis, and continues to provide a safe shelter for children and families. There are locations in Logan, Hyrum and Smithfield and serve families in Rich County.
The Family Place has a mission to strengthen families and protect children by offering fun family-focused events in the community.
