Rain-soaked sidewalk in Logan Thursday night
The first in a series of fast moving weather disturbances will continue to cross northern Utah on Thursday night. Periods of rain and snow will continue across northern Utah and southwest Wyoming through Friday night, then shift south into southern and central Utah over the weekend. Although it’s been a mostly rain event in Cache Valley into Thursday night, the National Weather Service has continued the Winter Weather Advisory until 9a.m. Friday morning as there is a potential of slick roads as rain transitions to snow, lasting into Friday morning.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5p.m. Saturday for the mountains of northern Utah as heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 15 to 25 inches (with 6 to 11 inches possible in the Bear River Valley). Also exposed summits could see wind gusts as high as 40 miles-per-hour, creating areas of blowing and drifting snow. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. In the Cache Valley, snow should taper off by Saturday night leaving mostly cloud skies and much colder temperatures on Sunday into Monday with high temps in the lower to mid 20’s range.
