It’s a real race in Utah’s Congressional District 1 especially with no incumbent running and multiple candidates are seeking the Republican nomination. Another candidate competing for the job is Bob Stevenson. He was a guest on KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday and was asked how one addresses the different needs across the district which encompasses Cache and Box Elder counties to Weber, Davis then out east to Uintah and Daggett counties.
“That’s an energy driven area out there and it’s one of those things that whomever is the candidate and who ends up winning has to realize that what takes place out there with the energy is every bit as important as what takes place with Hill Air Force Base, there in the Davis-Weber county area. To moving up to the Cache Valley, where you’ve got Utah State University and the importance of all the different businesses up there. You have to be willing to be very, very diverse as far as your thinking and how you’re looking at all this”, he explained.
Stevenson has served as a member of the Layton city council and was twice elected the city’s mayor. He is currently serving as Davis County commissioner. He was asked by someone what his biggest accomplishment was while with Layton city.
“We kept the legislative body working together with the city and with the staff because that was the way we were able to accomplish things. If you fight and you bicker, and you want to just stand your ground, nothing will ever get accomplished. That’s obviously what we see on the national level. There’s been some that have said, that if I’m able to be elected, to get people to support me, that it will be probably the one biggest challenge I will ever have on trying to bring people together to see if we can accomplish things.”
