LOGAN – Since 1992, the Rotary Club of Logan Utah has selected a member of its club as the Rotarian of the Year. The standard for such a designation is to exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service above Self.” Sherman (Sherm) Sanders, a resident of Providence, was recently recognized as the 2019 Rotarian of the Year.

Sherm joined the Rotary Club of Logan in 2011. He has served on the Club’s Board of Directors and on multiple Rotary committees.  He has directed Logan Rotary’s Adopt a Highway project in Logan Canyon, and always participates in the semiannual Garff Gradens cleanup. Prior to moving to Cache Valley, Sanders was a member of the Kaysville Utah Rotary Club.

Sanders has participated in many Rotary international service projects, making multiple trips to Agua Prieta in northern Sonora Mexico to help build housing for handicapped families, often donating materials. He traveled to central Mexico and helped with construction of one of four Aquaponics Systems built with Rotary funding. Sanders also traveled with other Rotary members to Northern Peru to help evaluate the efficacy and long term sustainability of previous Rotary clean water projects.

In addition to his volunteer efforts with Rotary, for over 20 years Sanders rendered outstanding service to the Boy Scouts of America. He and his wife, Terri, were active with Cub Scouts and Sherm served many years as a Scoutmaster. In 2017, Sherm and Terri were jointly awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts’ Trapper Trails Council. The Silver Beaver is the highest recognition that a local Scout Council can award to honor Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service to scout age youth.

Sanders is the owner of Gordon’s Glass in Logan and Kaysville Glass in Davis County.
