LOGAN — A 38-year-old Richmond man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a young girl multiple times. Alfonso Garcia was booked into the Cache County Jail earlier this month, where he is being held without bail.

According to an arrest report, the alleged victim told investigators how Garcia put his hand inside her pants and touched her inappropriately on several occasions. The suspect was an acquaintance of the girl’s family.

When deputies questioned Garcia, he stated that there was a lot of love and affection between the two of them. He stated that he did not remember the assaults happening and if it did, it was unintentional.

Later during the interview, Garcia asked deputies to pass a message onto the victim. He then got down on his knees in front of the detective, and said he wanted to ask the girl to forgive him. He stated that it was not his intention to do her any harm.

Garcia was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Judge Brian Cannell assigned Garcia a public defender. He also refused to set bail, noting that the suspect has an immigration hold.

Garcia was ordered to appear again in court next week. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.
