LOGAN — Police are investigating the deaths of three people in an apparent murder suicide early Monday morning.

Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen said officers were first dispatched to an apartment near 636 East 500 North on a possible shooting or explosion. The call was received early Monday morning at 12:16 a.m. When officers arrived they found two people dead from gunshot wounds, 19-year-old Mackenzie Madden and 25-year-old Jonathan Jacob Sadler.  Both are from Logan.

Lt. Rod Peterson said investigators believe 23-year-old Jared J. Tolman went to the address, kicked in the door and opened fire.  Madden was reportedly shot five times and Sadler was shot three times.

About 30 minutes later at 12:50 p.m., police were called to a second apartment near 1693 North 400 West. There they found the Tolman dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Peterson said the families of both the shooter and the victims are devastated.

Jensen said Logan City Police Detectives, in cooperation with the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Utah Highway Patrol are currently investigating both crime scenes.
