LOGAN — Police have released the identity of the 13-month-old boy killed Monday night after being hit and run over by an SUV.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said Wyatt Crockett was playing with other neighborhood children in the driveway of his home at 1700 S. 1330 W. around 7:00 p.m. The boy’s mother, 31-year-old Melissa Crockett, was watching the children from the front porch, when she went inside momentarily.

While inside the home, a neighbor who lives across the street, 32-year-old Kody Davis, was backing an SUV out of his driveway when he ran over Crockett, who had wandered into the roadway.

Hooley said the accident is a tragic reminder of how careful drivers need to be, especially when backing a vehicle.

“It is unfortunate,” said Hooley. “Children move so quickly and it gets difficult sometimes, especially in an SUV or a pickup truck, to see small children.”

Melissa told investigators that when she walked back outside, she found Davis standing over her son, attempting to render first-aid.

Paramedics were called to the scene and rushed Wyatt to Logan Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Hooley said the death initially appears to be an accident but officers are conducting a thorough investigation.
