Jennie at her retirement party at KVNU/CVMG on Oct 25,2019

KVNU and Cache Valley Daily.com  learned tonight that our long-time News director Jennie Christensen passed away peacefully Sunday evening.  Jennie started  at KVNU in 1972.  And retired in 2018.  During her early years on radio, she hosted a news-interview show called Take Ten.  Later she began hosting Crosstalk, a daily call-in show focused on current issues.  The show ran for more than a quarter century, and included interviews with state and local officials, authors, artists and business leaders.  She also for a time, expanded her reporting to television, hosting Let’s Talk Cache Valley.

Jennie was always the first one to work, usually arriving by 4:30a.m. and continuing through the day, while also attending city, county and school district meetings in the evenings.  Jennie collected multiple awards for her professionalism and standing in the community. In 2017, she was inducted, along with Al Lewis, into the Utah Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame

A retirement party and Open House for Jennie was held in late October of last year at the Cache Valley Media Group  and KVNU location.   The radio newsroom was renamed the Jennie Christensen Newsroom in her honor.  Jennie tolerated these honors , but she was a very humble individual who felt that the journalist should not be ‘the story’.  She will be missed very much by her family, friends and all of us at Cache Valley Media Group.   Funeral plans will be announced later.
