WILLARD (AP) – Officials have closed part of Willard Bay State Park in northern Utah after an oil pipeline leaked diesel fuel into a retention pond and drainage ditch nearby.

Utah State Parks spokeswoman Deena Loyola says the park’s North Marina and campground have been indefinitely closed after the leak was detected and campers were evacuated Monday night.

A spokesman for Chevron, which owns the pipeline, says the spill has been contained and there’s no indication any fuel leaked into Willard Bay.

Spokesman Greg Hardy says Chevron detected the leak Monday afternoon on the line stretching from Salt Lake City to Idaho.

Hardy says emergency and cleanup crews were sent to the site and booms were used to contain the spill.

Officials don’t know how much fuel was released or what caused it.
