LOGAN — A 20-year-old North Logan man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a teenage girl last summer. Tristan T. Larson showed little emotion as he was ordered to serve six-years-to-life behind bars.

Larson was sentenced in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. He previously pleaded guilty to an amended charge of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Defense attorney Mike McGinnis said cases like Larson’s were tough for everyone involved. He read a statement from his client, describing his actions as the “worst choice I have ever made in my life.” He said Larson never blamed anyone and needs to do the time for the crime committed.

In June 2019, the 13-year-old victim received a Snapchat message from a girl that she believed she knew from school. The message invited her to an apartment complex in North Logan.

The victim told North Park police officers that when she went to the apartment, Larson answered the door and pulled her inside. He then placed a red bandanna over her mouth and tied it around the back of her head.

Larson pushed her down a hallway, into a bedroom, and onto a bed. He then pulled her pants down and raped her.

Cache County deputy attorney Dane Murray explained that Larson didn’t originally cooperate with police and denied the assault until DNA matched him to the crime. Murray said this has had a horrific impact on the victim’s life.

Judge Brian Cannell said Larson’s case was disturbing. He noted the defendant’s young age as a reason for not ordering a larger minimum sentence. He warned though that if Larson’s attitude doesn’t continue to improve, the parole board would not consider releasing him after six years.
