LOGAN — A school bus transporting 21 kindergarten age students was involved in an accident Friday morning in Wellsville.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said a 2013 Dodge Caravan hit the back of the bus while it was picking up students for Wellsville Elementary School.

The accident occurred at 1215 S. Center St. The bus had just completed a stop and was moving forward when the driver noticed another student walking toward the bus. The driver stopped and was struck.

The van, owned by Utah State University, was also transporting two special needs students plus the driver on board.

Peterson said none of the kindergarteners on the bus were injured in the accident. One of the individuals in the van had minor injuries and was checked by paramedics before being released. No one was transported to the hospital.

Several students were picked up by parents on the scene while most continued to the school.

Peterson said the driver of the van, 21-year-old Austin Richards was cited for following too close.
