LOGAN — A 24-year-old Nibley man, found guilty of object rape in April, has been sentenced to prison.
Jacob Christensen appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He showed little emotion as Judge Kevin Allen sentenced him to serve five-years-to-life in the Utah State Prison.
Allen told Christensen his arrogance, selfishness and pride were all reasons he was where he was. “You wouldn’t man up and take responsibility for what you have done,” said Allen.
Sentencing was postponed for two-months to complete and clarify information in a pre-sentence investigation report.
State attorney Spencer Walsh said in that report, Christensen admitted to “fingering the victim,” after she had taken the sleep aid Ambien and was unconscious.
Allen told Christensen it didn’t matter whether it was his finger or something else, it was rape because she couldn’t consent.
Christensen told the court he regretted lying about what he did and wanted to come clean. He said, “I’m not that person anymore.”
Christensen was originally charged with rape and forcible sexual assault. On April 18, following a five day trial, a jury found him guilty of object rape, a first-degree felony.
During the trial, the victim testified she and her roommate took Ambien for the purpose of trying to get high. She said Christensen drove them back to their apartment where she began to hallucinate, vomit and black out. The next thing she remembered that night was waking-up in her room, being assaulted and finding Christensen there.
“I still remember the pain to this day,” said the victim.
During Monday’s sentencing Allen said he would give Christensen credit for the 274 days he has already served in the Cache County Jail.
