LOGAN — A 32-year-old Nibley man has confessed to sexually assaulting a child two years ago. Carlos Pimentel has accepted a plea deal that will likely still send him to prison.

Court records show, Pimentel appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon. He pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. As part of the deal, prosecutors agreed to drop the remaining charges against him.

Pimentel was arrested in January 2018 and later released after posting bail. The case had been delayed after he hired a new attorney last year.

The victim was an acquaintance of Pimentel, who was considered a person of trust.

During Monday’s court appearance, Judge Angela Fonnesbeck ordered Pimentel to have a pre-sentence report completed about his criminal history. She also scheduled sentencing for February 24.
