WELLSVILLE — A man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle crash in Sardine Canyon, US-89/91. The accident was reported around 12:45 p.m., at milepost 13, near Sherwood Hills.

Utah Highway Patrol Col. Chris Bishop said the man was driving southbound when he struck the cement barrier. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

According to emergency radio traffic, the car flipped over after hitting the barrier. The driver was not breathing and did not have a pulse when troopers arrived on the scene. He had to be extricated from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead.

UHP Sgt. Jason Kendrick said the man was not wearing a seat belt.

Bishop said because of the nature of the accident, the identity of the victim is not being released, pending notification of family. The cause of the crash is also still being determined.

The highway was partially closed to southbound traffic for about three hours while emergency crews cleared the scene.
