LOGAN — A 59-year-old Logan man was sentenced to prison Tuesday morning, after pleading guilty to felony child sex abuse charges. Miguel Contreraz was sentenced in 1st District Court to two sentences of one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison.
Contreraz was originally arrested last October and charged with 10 counts of rape of a child and sex abuse of a child, all second-degree felonies.
State attorney Barbara Lachmar said the victim in the case was a 10-year-old girl, who lived next to Contreraz. The girl told investigators and her parents that she was abused multiple times.
In January Contreraz pleaded guilty to two charges of sex abuse of a child and had the other nine charges dropped.
While in court, through an interpreter, Contreraz claimed the accusations against him were false and that he slipped while walking through a doorway and accidentally grabbed the victim’s buttocks.
Judge Brian Cannell said he failed to see why Contreraz would plead guilty if the charges were false. He ordered him to begin his sentence immediately. The two sentences will run concurrently.
