LOGAN — A 43-year-old Logan man has confessed to downloading hundreds of videos and pictures of children being sexually abused. Daniel G. Archibald also admitted to posting naked photos of an acquaintance without her permission.
Archibald appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning. He pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; and one misdemeanor of distribution of an intimate image. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped nine remaining charges.
Cache County Deputy Attorney Dane Murray told the court that in June, officers received a tip from agents with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force (ICAC) at the State Attorney General’s Office. They had tracked Archibald downloading more than one hundred pictures and videos of child pornography through a social media account.
When police served a warrant to Archibald’s residence they located the material on multiple electronic devices. Those items were seized and sent to the Utah State Crime Lab for forensic analysis.
Murray said officers later located nude photos that Archibald had posted of an acquaintance without her knowledge. The material had also been shared on a social media account.
Archibald spoke only briefly during Monday’s hearing. He told the judge that was willing to waive his right to a trial in exchange for his guilty pleas.
Archibald’s defense attorney explained how the defendant has undergone a psycho-sexual evaluation. It should be completed within the next couple weeks.
Judge Thomas Willmore also ordered Archibald to complete a pre-sentence report, documenting his criminal history. He scheduled sentencing for February 10.
Archibald remains out of jail on $100,000 bond. He could face up to 15-years in prison.
