LOGAN — Police have arrested a 32-year-old Logan man accused of raping a woman at a local hotel, last weekend.

George C. Taggart was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of rape and violating his probation. He is being held without bail in the Cache County Jail.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley could only provide limited details about the case, while it is still being investigated. He explained that a woman called 911 last Sunday claiming that she was raped by Taggart, after she went by a hotel room he was staying at. The woman said she knew the defendant and agreed to meet him there for an unrelated matter.

Once she arrived, Taggart forced himself on her as she tried to stop him repeatedly.

Taggart was arraigned in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors charged him with one count of rape, a first-degree felony. He is scheduled to appear again in court Monday with his public defender.
