LOGAN – Students at Logan High School got a visit from the new C-SPAN Campaign 2020 bus on Tuesday morning.

The 45-foot-long red, white and blue bus rolled into Logan to help educate students and first-time voters in the lead-up to the Presidential Primary, March 3.

Inside the bus, students were taken on a virtual tour through C-SPAN’s video library featuring past and present presidential candidates on the campaign trail.

The network is known for its in-depth coverage of the U.S. Congress, White House and federal courts, as well as its signature political programming.

Seventeen-year-old Logan High School Senior Pierce Schofield said he only hears conservative political opinions in his home so he liked what C-SPAN had to offer.

“I thought it was interesting to learn that they [C-SPAN] are unfiltered about how they allow people to have their own opinion based off of what they show, which is something that I really like,” Schofield said. “A lot of the news sources I’ve been exposed to are very – here’s the thing, here’s what we think and we’re done. It doesn’t feel like I can get much out of it. I like to know that I can form my own opinion.”

The Campaign 2020 bus has already traveled to the first-in-the-nation caucus in Iowa. It also made stops in New Hampshire and Nevada for their primaries.

Throughout the year, the bus will travel to campaign events, middle and high schools and universities all over the country with a focus on introducing first-time voters to C-SPAN’s coverage of the political process.

“This is great way for us to do outreach to students and in Logan, particularly, for students who are going to be first-time voters as they turn 18,” C-SPAN producer Ashley Hill said.

For first-time voters in Logan, “the timing couldn’t be better,” she said. “Right now, we are talking about Mitt Romney. The Vice Presidential debates in Utah are in the fall and so anything that happens here in Logan paints a larger picture for the rest of the country and it’s good that these students get to learn that.”

Eighteen-year-old Alex Rasmussen is one of those students who will be voting in the 2020 Presidential Election.

“I already voted in the primary. It’s really exciting,” he said. “It’s exciting to be involved and feel like I can make a difference.”

The first C-SPAN Bus was launched in 1993. Tuesday’s bus stop was sponsored by Comcast.
