To my Republican friends. I understand your frustration with the Federal Government. This frustration has led to the election of very brazen candidates across the United States. With the election of these candidates and their stirring speech’s many in the GOP have become even more frustrated because they are not seeing the success they think they should. These candidates have used phrases such as “we need to start acting like conservatives”, “we need do the things we were elected to do.” The candidates have created un-realistic expectations, and then when the expectations fail, as they were inevitable going to. They lash out at other Republicans and blame them for not “fighting.” As a former conservative Republican member in the Senate Tom Coburn said ““You’re going to set an expectation among the conservatives in our party that we can achieve something that we’re not able to achieve. It’s not an achievable strategy. It’s creating the false impression that you can do something when you can’t. And it’s dishonest.”

Tops among these Tea Party Republicans Senator Ted Cruz. Senator Cruz has passed exactly 1 bill that he sponsored in Congress. He has used bluster and ego and practically whipped some of the GOP into a frenzy into shutting down the Government several times. Remember 2013. The Republicans controlled 1/2 of 1/3 of the Federal Government. However with this extremely slim portion of the government some of the GOP decided they were going to impose their minority will across the other 2/3 of government. This ended exactly as it was going to from the beginning. The government being shut down for 16 days, costing the economy estimated billions, and the Republicans gaining almost nothing. But keep your heads up, the Republicans fought. One minor side note: Mike Lee one of the biggest supporters of shutting down the Federal Government was also a supporter of the Federal Government paying the State of Utah back, for keeping the National Parks open with state money. Just to be clear, force a shutdown…..and then request to pay the state back with Federal money. Oh boy.

Orrin Hatch the senior most member of the United States Senate has sponsored or cosponsored 742 bills that have become laws. In 2013 he joined with Republican Senators Richard Burr, and Tom Coburn and released their new Patient CARE Act (PCA) proposal, the most detailed and realistic blueprint for replacing Obamacare. I would assume most people never even heard of the alternative because all the media and attention was on the shut-down, not any ideas being proposed by Republicans.

Republicans need a winning strategy. Not one of blame and bluster and non-sense, and rallying the conservative base with un-achievable expectations.
