LOGAN – This will be the third year someone in the valley will be surprised during the Christmas season and receive a gently used, but reliable and safe vehicle.

Leavitt Automotive, located at 55 East 2000 North, is giving away a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan to a deserving family and they are still accepting nominations though December 14.

Owner Travis Leavitt said they are hoping to spread a little kindness this holiday season and would love to give the van away to a family in need. He said they have received hundreds of emails from people nominating acquaintances, friends and loved ones.

“It’s fun to be able to give back and see the reactions on their faces,” said Leavitt, “I told my wife if I was ever in the position to help people that I would. This is my way of being able to help give back to the community.”

The father of three young children and one on the way said he has partnered with a number of individuals and business in the community to be able to pull this off.

In fact, the van was donated and defiantly a fixer-upper, he said. But when mechanic Dustin Turner is finished with repairs, it will be like new.

“Just in the repairs alone…there is roughly about 30 hours of labor,” he said. “We are doing a lot of stuff, pretty much going through everything and finding everything that is wrong with it and fixing it.”

“I’ve learned that no matter how bad of a situation you are in, someone has it worse,” said Leavitt, who shared the contents of one of the emails he has received.

The email was from a concerned mother asking Leavitt to consider donating the van to her daughter who has had a “rough life.” The young mother of three, with one on the way, is apparently driving a vehicle that is unsafe and lacks enough seatbelts for the entire family.

The email stated: “I understand there are many out there in similar situations and needs. My daughter just really needs a break.”

Leavitt, along with his wife, will read each email and then make a decision sometime next week. The surprise giveaway will be December 21 and will be broadcast on Facebook live. You can still nominate a family and watch the giveaway here.
