She is currently the mayor of Kaysville, but Katie Witt is also a candidate for Congress for the First District seat that Rob Bishop is vacating at the end of the year.  On KVNU’s For the People program on Thursday, Witt says one concern she senses regardless of where she visits in the district is the high cost of health care and prescriptions.  She says her family has been personally affected.

“My youngest, who is 22 has cystic fibrosis, which is a genetic disease.  He is on a medication that costs $300,000 dollars a year, and I know there are other families out there that are dealing with exorbitantly high insulin prices and life-saving medications that they cannot do without,” she said.

Witt says one of the things she’d like to see happen is to bring more market principles into health care.  She thinks it is something that is fixable.  You can hear the entire interview with Witt below.
