LOGAN — A pair of juveniles were arrested Saturday night after attempting to steal a vehicle. The 16 and 15-year-olds reportedly stole a 2002 white Chevy Silverado from a home in Franklin County and were later spotted in North Logan.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes said his officer first located the vehicle traveling southbound on US-91 near 2400 North. The officer radioed for backup and continued following the truck to 1800 North and 200 West.

“At that point in time another North Park officer responded and we tried to box them in,” said Hawkes. “As soon as they saw the officer coming westbound towards them, they took at a high rate of speed.”

The juveniles continued driving westbound on 1800 North, driving through the stop sign at 600 West.

Hawkes said officers deployed tire spikes near 1800 North and 800 West but the truck turned southbound into a field and ran into a ditch.

“Both of the individuals jumped out of the vehicle, took off across the field and attempted to hide,” said Hawkes. “They were later discovered and apprehended by sheriff’s deputies and Logan City officers and were arrested.”

The juveniles were arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Captain Karen Hatch said the two juveniles were not from the area. Both were in state custody and were visiting a gym in Preston when they escaped.
