LOGAN — A 49-year-old man arrested in Logan is continuing to fight extradition to California, where he is wanted for murder. Daniel Espinoza is being held in the Cache County Jail since being arrested last month.
Court records show Espinoza appeared in 1st District Court Thursday morning for a preliminary hearing. He was previously charged with one count of being a fugitive from justice.
On November 15, Espinoza was taken into custody after police officers were given information regarding his whereabouts. The suspect allegedly has quite a history in the valley and several ties to local residents.
During Thursday’s hearing, several law enforcement officers that were involved with Espinoza’s arrest testified regarding his identity. Judge Brian Cannell later ruled that prosecutors had sufficient evidence to prove the defendant’s identity and that he is wanted on suspicion of homicide.
Espinoza was ordered to remain in jail, held without bail. He is scheduled to appear again in court December 23.
Court records show that Espinoza plans to file a Writ of Habeas Corpus, claiming he is being unlawfully detained.
