If you’re hoping the storms forecast through Thursday morning might scour out the valley, we’ll have to wait a few more days for relief. According to the National Weather Service- Salt Lake office, the system moving through Wednesday night is not expected to be strong enough and inversions will re-strengthen Thursday into Saturday.
But good news is on the horizon. A Pacific Northwest storm system is expected to mix out the inversions in northern Utah valleys as it moves through late in the upcoming weekend. As of late Wednesday afternoon, air quality was in the ‘yellow’ category in Cache County.
According to air.utah.gov, solid fuel burning devices must not be used. Also open burning is prohibited, including fire pits, fire rings, and campfires. Residents are encouraged to reduce vehicle use by consolidating trips. Farther south, Weber county is in the yellow category, but Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele and Utah counties are suffering higher particulate numbers in the ‘orange’ category
