LOGAN — Emergency crews evacuated five homes in the Island neighborhood Monday morning after a broken water valve caused a landslide.

Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge said the slide was located on the hillside north of Canyon Road, near Lauralin Drive.

A pressurized waterline that broke in the area was believed to be the primary cause. Fire and city crews were later able to shut off water to the line, and residents were allowed back into all but one of the homes.

There were no injuries reported and crews are assessing the damage.

The American Red Cross was also assisting displaced residents.

The slide occurred in the same neighborhood as a similar mudslide in 2009 that killed three people.
