LOGAN – If you’re expecting packages in the mail over the next couple of weeks, it’s possible you could see those deliveries show up on your front door at unusual hours of the day.

“We’re going to be out early,” said Logan Postmaster Katie Evertsen. “We start delivery between and 6 and 6:30 in the morning and we’ll be out after dark. Hopefully, we’ll be off the streets by 8 p.m.”

The holiday shopping and shipping season is in full swing. Evertson wants to ensure it is a stress free and safe one for those mailing and delivering packages.

“If you can just help keep our carriers safe, that’s usually my biggest concern,” she said. “We want to make sure people are clearing their walks from ice and snow, clearing out their mailboxes so they can pull up to the mail box easily.”

To kick off the holiday shipping season, Evertsen was on hand Monday to welcome customers with cookies and some common sense advice.

“When you package your stuff, make sure you’re not using newspaper or anything that can get ripped off,” she said. “Package it in a box already wrapped. Package it to handle some impact so we don’t have anything damaged.”

She continued, “We’re trying to get people to mail as early as possible. We have a four week peak season where Thanksgiving was later this year, so we are trying to get people into the office mailing their things early so we can help them get their items to their loved ones sooner.”
