Figures from state education officials show Utah’s high school graduation rate continues to rise with four out of five high school seniors earning their diplomas in 2013.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the graduation rate of 81 percent is up from 78 percent the year before.

Last year’s graduation rate is 12 percentage points higher than the 2008 rate.

State Superintendent Martell Menlove says he’s pleased with the steady improvement over time.

Graduation rates held steady or improved for all of Utah’s ethnic groups. Latinos graduated at a 68-percent clip, compared to 63 percent the year before.

But graduation rates for minorities are still well behind rates for white students. The Latino graduation rate for 2013 is 17 percentage points less than whites.
