A first of its kind resource center for veterans is being planned for the Cache Valley.  On KVNU’s For the People program on Wednesday, Philip Redlinger of the  Cache Valley Veterans Association (CVVA) said the work came about in 2015.  They started the CVVA in recognition of the limited services and resources in the valley.  He said when they identified what was needed and how to do it,  quite a few people were interested in becoming members.

“All are veterans and one active duty service member, and we just pushed forward with starting the Cache Valley Veterans Association in 2015, January 7th to be exact. And our mission was to basically improve, optimize and create new services for veteran service members and their families in the Cache, Rich, Box Elder and Franklin counties.  So we’re talking about 15-thousand folks”, he explained.

Redlinger was asked what makes the timing right to announce the proposed center now.

“The building was donated back in….May, June time-frame.   The space needed to be built out, and so over the last several months we’ve been working on meeting with contractors, builders…and the volunteers, as far as building this space out.  So literally over the last couple of months, it’s been basically permits and applications and materials, in order to get this thing up and running”

He said the association is working hard to help veterans with their quality of life, addressing suicides, homelessness, education, benefit services and more.  Redlinger said the one thing they’re in great need for now is raising funds to get the construction started.   Those interested  in seeing how they can help can contact the Cache Valley Veterans  Association through their Facebook page or their website www.cachevalleyveterans.org
