MALAD, Idaho (AP) – A former eastern Idaho postmaster who authorities say made a false report of an armed robbery at the Malad Post Office won’t face federal charges.
A U.S. Postal inspector tells the Idaho State Journal in a story on Friday that federal prosecutors decided to forego charges against Bradley David Hunter in favor of allowing state prosecutors to take the case.
Inspector Darin Solmon investigated the case and says Hunter’s report of a Jan. 8 robbery at the U.S. Post Office in Malad was a false report to cover up of a theft.
Authorities searched Hunter’s home and say they found stolen U.S. mail.
Hunter is charged with felony grand theft. He also faces four misdemeanors: driving without privileges, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
