A new Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) for high school football was used this past season, and will also be used for high school basketball for the first time in the state of Utah. The full RPI rankings will be revealed for 4A, 5A and 6A on Friday, December 27 but the Utah High School Activities Association revealed the top 10 on Thursday.

Sky View opens the RPI rankings as the number one team in 4A. The Bobcats are currently 7-2 on the season, with their two losses coming to Corner Canyon (#5 in the initial 6A rankings) and Timpview (#2 in the initial 5A rankings).

Fellow Region 11 team Bear River is #7 in the rankings. The Bears are 6-2 on the year, with those two losses coming in their last two games, both on the road: at Morgan (the #3 team in 3A) and at Box Elder (the #5 team in 5A).

Green Canyon and Ridgeline also made the top 10, coming in at #9 and #10 respectively. The Wolves are currently 5-3 on the season and the Riverhawks are 3-4. The rankings for Logan (2-7) and Mountain Crest (1-7) will be revealed on Friday.

The UHSAA has created the RPI to manage a new way of seeding teams for the post season. It is comprised of several factors, including: modified winning percentage (which is more than just a percentage of wins and losses, but also takes into account games played between classifications), opponents winning percentage, and opponents’ opponents winning percentage.

The schools have a few more non-region games on their schedules before Region 11 games begin on January 10.
