An increase in cemetery fees was approved by the Logan City Council on Tuesday. Parks and Recreation Director Russ Akina told the council the increase is needed mainly to fund capital improvements at the cemetery.

When asked about cremation, Akina acknowledged that more people are choosing that option. He had some information which he said he recently received from Brigham City.

“It’s about $20-25,000 to construct a two-sided columbarium that would have a 12″ x 12″ square face. In that there would be a vault. You would have as many as 16 vaults on each side of that wall that customers could use for cremains.”

Councilmember Holly Daines said cremation apparently saves money and also takes up less space in the cemetery.
