LOGAN — The family of a Sky View High School student who was critically injured in a fight and hospitalized, released a statement about the boys condition on Friday.
In the written statement, the boy’s family said their son is home and doing well. They expressed gratitude for all the thoughts and prayers they have received.
The teenage boy was flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center after being hit by another sophomore aged student and knocked unconscious. The fight occurred October 7 at the school after school hours.
The teen who punched the victim was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of aggravated assault. Charges are pending. Both boys have not been identified because they are minors.
The victim’s family said they hope their experience will be an opportunity for families to talk about the danger of bullying. They also asked for privacy as their son continues to heal.
The statement came two days after the Cache County School District also released a statement saying that the students involved in the incident were suspended, pending an investigation by school and district officials.
“The Cache County School District does not condone nor tolerate physical aggression,” the statement said. “School Board policy directs that the use of force, or threatening the use of force, on school grounds, will result in a mandatory suspension or expulsion.”
Some of the students who witnessed the fight between the two teens videoed the assault on their cell phones. The statement said administrators and the Cache County Sheriff’s office were continuing to ask that the video not be shared, out of respect for the families involved.
The statement concluded by stating the well-being of students and staff are a top priority for the district. They encouraged students who witness any form of physical violence, threatening or bullying to alert a school employee or adult immediately.
