SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former CIA officer and Brigham Young University graduate has made it on the Utah ballot for president as an independent after his campaign obtained the 2,000 signatures necessary.

Evan McMullin jumped into the race this month because he believes many people want an alternative to Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

McMullin was born in Utah and raised in Washington.

The Utah State Elections office announced his place on the ballot after McMullin dropped off the signatures Monday.

McMullin has already missed the deadline to get on the ballot in some states but he says he has a plan that will include lawsuits and cooperation with smaller political parties.
