LOGAN — An elderly man was hospitalized after being hit by a car, while trying to cross Main Street in North Logan.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes said the man was walking westbound across the street near 1600 North, when he was struck.

Witnesses told officers the man had crossed the first two lanes of travel and appeared to stop momentarily in the center median, before walking into southbound traffic.

A vehicle traveling in the inside lane was able to avoid the man. The second vehicle, a Kia Sportage, in the outside lane braked, swerved but was still unable to avoid the collision.

Initial reports were the man was unresponsive and bleeding from the head after being hit. He was transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital.

Hawkes said the latest report from doctors was the man was sitting up and communicating with hospital staff.

Investigators said no one was injured from the Kia.  No citations were issued to the elderly man even though he was jaywalking.

The man’s identity has not been released.
