A Cache County Sheriff’s deputy tased a Nibley man Tuesday night near Paradise before arresting him and two others on suspicion of driving under the influence and other alcohol related offenses.
The deputy pulled over the maroon colored Blazer near 8400 South State Road 165 after a citizen called 911, reporting that the occupants in the vehicle had thrown a beverage container out of the window.
Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said the deputy detected the odor of alcohol when he approached the car. He asked the driver, 29-year-old Jonathan W. Raper, to submit to a field sobriety test and later determined there was enough evidence to place him under arrest.
There were five people inside the vehicle including a six-month-old child.
Peterson said when the deputy told Raper he was going to be arrested, Raper attempted to run and a short foot-pursuit ensued.
The chase ended after the deputy tased Raper and was able to take him into custody.
Paramedics were called to the scene to treat Raper for lacerations to his elbow. He was later booked into the Cache County Jail on DUI, child endangerment and other offenses.
Peterson said further investigation resulted in the arrests of two other passengers, 29-year-old Sunny Helling of Nibley for alcohol-related and child endangerment offenses, and 27-year-old Justin R. Raper of Nibley for alcohol-related offenses as well as a probation violation.
The six month old child was left in the custody of the State Division of Child and Family Services temporarily until other family could be contacted.
