LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball head coach Tim Duryea announced on Wednesday that sophomore forward David Collette has decided to leave the program.
“I was shocked when he came into my office today and said he was going to quit,” Duryea said. “I think there were a lot of factors in play that, unfortunately, have become a trend in college basketball of schools poaching other schools’ players. I don’t feel good and don’t like how things transpired, but we will move on and get ready for our season opener on Friday.”
Collette played two seasons for the Aggies, spending the 2011-12 season as a redshirt before departing on an LDS Church mission. Colletted returned for the 2014-15 season where he averaged 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds per game and led the team and Mountain West, shooting 59.1 percent (163-of-276) from the floor.
Utah State will open its 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, traveling to Weber State to face the Wildcats at 7 p.m. in the Dee Events Center.
