The annual Scouting For Food Drive will team up with Feed Utah 2020 and is intended to include all faiths and community organizations.

LOGAN – Matt Whitaker of the Cache County Food Pantry, located at 359 S. Main Street in Logan, said they are preparing for this year’s Scouting For Food Drive and Feed Utah 2020 that will be held on the morning of Saturday, March 21.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is teaming up with Boy Scouts of America and other organizations to help collect food this year.

Richard West, director of communication for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for North Ogden to Southern Idaho, said Scouting for Food has been such a wonderful thing in the past and a needed thing in the community

“The LDS Church decided to help and keep the Boy Scouts of America as a partner,” he said. “It is still a scout sponsored event and it is still their national event.”

There are many partners with this year’s food drive. The Utah Trucking Association, Associated Foods and Just Serve are deeply involved this year as well.

“It is important to think of it as a community effort,” West said. “All faiths and organizations are invited to participate as well.”

He said this is not an Church of Jesus Christ food drive alone. Feed Utah 2020 is intended to include all faiths and communities.

“We want to work together to gather these needed resources so that no one will go hungry,” he said. “We want to provide those resources for all who need it, especially, those who are food insecure.”

West said right now there isn’t an organized food drive in Idaho at this time. Unless someone is exploring it nothing has been established yet.

The Just Serve organization is calling this year’s food drive Feed Utah 2020 and they are seeking volunteers to help box up food at the different collection sites.

This year’s collection sites are: The Cache Community Food Pantry, Benson Utah Stake Center, Hyrum Utah Sake Center, Logan Cache Stake Center, Logan Central Stake Center, Mount Logan Stake Center, Logan Stake Center, Nibley Stake Center, North Logan Stake Center, Providence South Stake Center, Richmond Stake Center, River Heights Stake Center.

The Cache County Search and Rescue will help collect the food from all of the collection sites in Cache Valley and bring them to the food pantry. People can also just bring their donations directly to the food pantry.

In Brigham City, the Boy Scouts will bring the food directly to the Box Elder Community Food Pantry. The Brigham City Rotary Club and the National Guard help with that food drive.

Each year local Boy Scout Troops in the area collected thousands of pounds of shelf-stable items to help the pantry programs throughout the state.

The Cache County Food Pantry officials are preparing for this year’s Scouting For Food Drive will be held on the morning of Saturday March 21.

The Cache County Food Pantry helps feed over 800 clients a year. Volunteers help make it possible by supporting various events and food drives like this.
