It has been known as the Child and Family Support Center but now executive director Esterlee Molyneux told Logan City Council members on Tuesday that the name will be changing soon. The new name to be officially announced will be “The Family Place.”

Molyneux was at the meeting for Mayor Craig Petersen’s proclamation designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. After thanking him she said over the past 10 years there has been anywhere from a 360 percent to a 3600 percent increase in services in the center’s efforts to strengthen families.

“The facility that we have right now, we have completely outgrown,” Molyneux told the council. “We have a pretty generous offer by a local family that they are willing to construct a new facility for us in Logan. So we’re by the bus stop, we’re by the English Language Center. It’s just a really nice location for families.”

During a workshop item the council discussed a request by the center for a rezone where a new facility will be built at 1500 North 200 West. Some of the neighbors have complained that they would like the land to be used instead for single family housing. The issue will come up again at a later council meeting.
