LOGAN — One of the many services that CAPSA offers locally are weekly get togethers for teens to discuss healthy relationships. On KVNU’s For the People program earlier this month, CAPSA’s prevention educator Bethany Balady said this is the next step in their group therapy programs.

“At CAPSA, we offer a number of different services, all of which are free and confidential.  Including therapy, counseling and prevention education, which is what I do, case work, and among some of those are group therapy.  We’ve had children’s groups and adult groups for awhile, and realized that we also are needing to target our teen population,”  Balady explained.

She said it’s important because they’re at the cusp of learning how to develop healthy relationships and learning what that means.

“You don’t know what you don’t know. So oftentimes what we see are (that)people get stuck in cycles of abuse because, (perhaps) they’ve experienced abuse as a child. Maybe when they enter into their dating relationships, that’s kind of what they expect”.

“So that’s why we’re there..to be able to teach them the difference, what healthy relationships look like versus unhealthy or abusive relationships. Because what one person grows up in as normalcy, might not necessarily be healthy.”

Balady said those interested in any of their therapy groups  or other services can contact her at bethany@capsa.org  or their Facebook page or CAPSA.org. She said they also post informational flyers that can be seen around the valley.
